rings waving alongside her face brought out the light in her sparkling green eyes. Chris had known she was beautifulbut he had never imagined this.
"Rousseau has to leave."
The waiter arrived and deposited Kirk's drink on the table. Kirk tossed the alcohol back in two long swallows, his gaze never wavering from D.J.'s face. "I'm not going anywhere until you introduce me."
Chris sighed. Kirk was just stubborn enough to do what he threatened. "Kirk Rousseau. D.J. Halloran."
"Halloran?" Kirk raised his eyebrows in surprise. "I've heard that name before."
D.J. frowned. "I'm afraid my name's been on the news and in the papers lately. I'd rather not discuss it."
"Ah, yes." He nodded. "I remember." Kirk held out his hand. "Nice to meet you, officer."
The two shook hands, Kirk holding D.J.'s fingers until she tugged them away from his grasp with a frown. She glanced at Chris in confusion.
"Good-bye, Rousseau," Chris said pointedly. He wouldn't put it past Kirk to start dissecting the details of the shooting, regardless of D.J.'s appeal not to speak of the incident.
Rousseau put his glass back on the table. With a smirk in Chris's direction, he moved to hold D.J's chair for her. When she was seated he leaned down, placing his palms on her shoulders and whispering into her ear.
D.J. tensed at Kirk's touch, and her mouth tightened at his words. Chris took a step forward, fury washing through his stomach in an acid wave. Kirk
